Chez Omar

This little Algerian restaurant has been opened for forty years and yet on most nights U will still spot a queue of people waiting outside for their table, and we can see why...

This little Algerian restaurant situated on Rue Bretagne, in the fashionable Marais, has been open for forty years, only takes cash, takes no reservations, and usually involves a thirty minute wait, and yet the devoted locals, models, media people, as well as Paris’s movers and shakers never seem to mind.

The reason being that Chez Omar is also known for its great Couscous, serene old brasserie style ambience, impeccable service and Omar Guerida himself. Guerida, the owner of Chez Omar is a man with a proficiency for languages and a talent for making guests feel right at home.

So, If U are hankering for a homely setting and peckish for great couscous than we recommend U look no further than the house’s Couscous Royal (€26) that comes accompanied with an assortment of grilled meats and vegetables. We also love the Grilled Lamb (€25) which is perfectly flavoured and tender and the vegetable stew that will almost have U ignoring the meat.

Chez Omar also has a full bistro menu but barely anyone ever seems to go for it, after all when in Chez Omar…

As of last year, the restaurant also boasts a second location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, headed by Guerida’s daughter, Yasmina. Keeping up with family tradition, the Brooklyn venue has already become a favourite with the local community.
