Manko, the neo-Peruvian restaurant located in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées that opened earlier this year, marks the first restaurant from the South American star chef Gastón Acurio in Paris.
Acurio who oversees nearly 50 Manko restaurants around the world, has managed to create an original dining destination for Parisians where Peruvian food, Inca culture, world class cocktails and cabaret all meet to offer an unforgettable experience.
It is no surprise that the cuisine is noteworthy, fresh and original. We love such dishes as ‘chifa’ (Scottish salmon, marinated vegetables, marajuca leche de tigre), or ‘anticuchos’ (Peruvian skewers with meat, fish or vegetarian, marinated with the aji panca, oregano and cumin).
If U have a sweet tooth do leave room for dessert and try the ‘manzana al pisco’ (baked apple with pisco, filled with dulce de leche, pecan nuts, housemade green apple sorbet).
Cocktails here are taken seriously and the bar area, like the rest of the venue, is designed by Laura Gonzalez and is a pleasure to sit and pass away the hours. The decor takes its inspiration from the Incas and is accented with decorative motifs in golden patina and silver leaf aged, as well as precious wood, metalwork brass, marble and warm colours. The bar centres around popular South American spirits like pisco, mezcal and aged rums. Do order the house ‘pisco sour’, one of the best in the city.
On weekends Manko also hosts cabaret, in the original location of the 1920s Music Hall Theatre where Josephine Baker first kicked off her career. To direct the program Acurio brought in director Manon Savary (Mugler Follies) and animator Marc Zaffuto and Emmanuel d’Orazio (the duo responsible for the cult evening Sandwich Club.)
