Le Compas

This trendy cafe seems to attract the belle monde around the renowned Rue Montorgueil, what’s more the cuisine is scrumptious.

Rue Montorgueil is one of the most popular cafe and restaurant streets in Paris. It is therefore no surprise that finding a covenant place on the street can be quiet the challenge, and perhaps no challenge is greater than scoring one of the sought after tables on the terrace of the ever popular Le Compas.

As the sun goes down and the nearby talent agencies empty onto Rue Montrogueil, the terrace of Compas becomes something almost magically stuck in time. Staff welcomes regulars with hugs and kisses, regulars all seem to know one another, tables grow and shrink in size as the night carries on, street performers appear and disappear from nowhere, and drinks are constantly coming and going as if on a conveyer belt, indeed you may be forgiven for thinking you are living some sort of 1920s cafe society life.

Most people come here for drinking and mingling, but we have to admit the food is tasty, so if famine should strike - you are in luck!

For a starter opt for something traditional like the portion of escargots or the house foie gras. Then move on to a well-prepared steak tartare served both traditionally or Italian style (with pesto and tuscan herbs). Or go big for a lovely entrecôte served with a delicate house salad and a portion of deliciously executed french fries .

And if you wish for a little advice, do ask the staff as they may well be some of the friendliest people in the city.
