This is not a gimmick, this unique alternative café was founded by the master himself - Salvador Dalí. Dalí's studio used to reside in the square and as he always was entertaining friends, artists and gallery owners he often served them tea outside on the square. Eventually, his invitees enjoyed it so much that they persuaded the man of many talents to open his a proper ‘salon du thé’.
Dalí, of course, took the idea even further and decided to also serve exotic fares of recipes he had acquired from his travels. The result was a great success, and when Dalí moved to the countryside he left his cafe to friends Roberto Terragni and Geraldine Campbell.
Now, over 40 years later the tradition continues. The cafe's unique bohemian style has remained in tact, as has its healthy menu, vegetarian dishes, and even monthly art exhibitions in Dalí's old studio. Indeed, keeping to its aspiring artists tradition L'Ebouillanté even offers a very affordable and tasty set menu. The menu changes daily, although the set price (be it lunch or dinner) remains the same.
And if that wasn't enough, each year L'Ebouillanté organises its own art competition called the Prix de la Peinture.
